We were voted Best Green Business for a 2nd year in a row in the 2016 Missoula Independent Reader’s Poll. Read the write-up in the Indy.
We worked with you to put more than 700 tons of building materials back to work in the community! That’s a big number and one we are confident in thanks to the work of Peter, our 2016 Climate Change Studies intern from UM.
We launched our Zero Waste Ambassadors Program (ZWAP!) educational adventure into the world of reuse and other “R” words. 600 young Missoulians learned about where stuff comes from, where it goes, and that their choices matter. Read the ZWAP! 2016 report.
We helped create the Missoula Zero Waste Resolution, which was passed by Missoula City Council in February. The resolution established a goal for the City to reduce solid waste by 90% by 2050. Read the Missoulian article.
We demonstrated the potential in materials that may appear to have little to no value by constructing a nifty tool shed/warming hut entirely out of reused materials – most of which likely would have not otherwise been reused (note the sweet paint can lid gable-end siding).
We deconstructed the Clawson Window Factory on the Northside, our largest commercial project in history, proving that deconstruction makes sense at any scale.
We increased community reuse skills through hands-on training in our youth woodworking workshops where students built projects to benefit the community as well as through our Youth Internship and Youth Apprenticeship Programs (YIP & YAP). We grew our excellent staff to 30 (including 4 brand new baby Home ReSourcerers who will surely be sorting screws in no time) and celebrated together at our annual staff & board hot dog roast.
We continued celebrating a culture of reuse at our 12th annual Spontaneous Construction festival of creative reinvention and our 6th annual Banquet & Benefit Auction. (SponCon photo by Jonathan Qualben.)
