Home ReSource’s MAKE SOMETHING series of classes can teach you how. Build the skills necessary to “do” reuse and reduce waste. In every introductory-level class you will:
- Make a functional item from reclaimed wood
- Learn about shop safety
- Learn to identify shop hand tools
- Learn to operate tools including miter saw, drill, and sander
- Learn tape measure mathematics
- Learn to prepare and use reclaimed materials
Classes are priced to be accessible to all community members; we use a sliding scale ($15-75) based on household size and income.

Past Classes
Tile 2: Layout & Design
Description: In this class, participants learn how to square up tile in not-square spaces and how to use different size tiles together to make custom designed tilework for a kitchen backsplash, bathroom tub wrap, a floor, or anywhere else.
Beginning Tile
Description: In this class, participants get a hands-on introduction to laying tile – from what materials you need, to proper tool use, to measuring and setting – and learn how to use Home ReSource materials for a nice, solid, economic installation.
Wooden Coat Rack
Description: In this class, participants build a coat rack from reclaimed wood with five hooks and a handy little shelf on top.
Wooden Step Stool
Description: In this class, participants build a step stool from reclaimed wood using a custom Home ReSource design.
Compost Bin
Description: In this class, participants build a three-section compost bin for MUD using a home-scale backyard compost system blueprint made by Garden City Harvest and Home ReSource.
Planter Box
Description: In this class, participants build a planter box from reclaimed cedar boards.
Native (Solitary) Bee House
Description: In this class, participants build a home for native solitary bees from reclaimed wood that can be added to home gardens to improve plant pollination. Solitary bees don’t swarm and are safe to welcome into your garden. Educational introduction about the importance of native bees provided by the National Wildlife Federation.
Bird House
Description: In this class, participants build a native bird house from reclaimed wood designed specifically for chickadees, nuthatches, and wrens.
