We don’t decide which of Missoula’s buildings come down. But we are always grateful for the opportunity to keep the materials from the ones that do come down out of the landfill and in our community.
No building in our 10-year history of deconstruction has meant more to Missoula than the Mercantile. We are humbled to be a part of preserving its spirit by recovering thousands of board feet of old-growth lumber hidden inside its walls while also uncovering the Merc’s handwritten human past. This is the kind of “logging” that builds a more sustainable future.
